  Legal Firm Faces Age-Bias Lawsuit

One of the nation's largest law firms is facing an age-discrimination lawsuit. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is accusing the Chicago-based firm of Sidley, Austin, Brown and Wood of demoting and pushing out older partners in violation of federal law.

Privileged communications

Definition:
Confidential communications to certain persons that are protected by law against any disclosure, including forced disclosure in legal proceedings. Communications between lawyer and client, physician and patient, psychotherapist and patient, priest, minister or rabbi and penitent are typically privileged.

Codicil

Definition:
A supplement or an addition to a will. It may explain, modify, and add to, subtract from, qualify, alter, restrain or revoke provisions in the existing will.

Res ipsa loquitur

Definition:
State laws requiring certain designated persons (physicians, nurses, teachers) to report to the authorities suspected cases of child abuse and injuries.
