New Director For The Administrative Office Of The Trial Court

Chief Justice for Administration and Management Robert A. Mulligan today announced the appointment of Attorney Pamela M. Dashiell of Boston as the Director of Planning and Policy Development for the Administrative Office of the Trial Court. Ms. Dashiell will begin her new position on July 10, 2006.

As Director of Planning and Policy Development, Ms. Dashiell is responsible for the development of new plans and initiatives to improve the management and operations of the Trial Court and for gathering and analyzing data to support existing initiatives.

Chief Justice Mulligan said, “I am very pleased that Pam Dashiell will be joining my management team. Ms. Dashiell has an extraordinary breadth of experience on a variety of legal and policy issues. I know that she will bring her vision and expertise to the many projects which are vital to the improvement of the management and performance of the Trial Court.”

Ms. Dashiell has more than twenty-five years experience in the practice of law. Since 1999, she has served as General Counsel to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where she represented and advised the Attorney General and his staff on diverse legal and policy issues. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Attorney General in the Public Protection Bureau from 1997 to 1999. Ms. Dashiell has also served as General Counsel to the Executive Office of Elder Affairs for three years. She has extensive experience drafting, reviewing, and interpreting state and federal contracts, legislation, and regulations, and working with public and private sector agencies. Ms. Dashiell also has worked in municipal government and has practiced law with a high technology company.

A native of Chicago, Ms. Dashiell is a graduate of Simmons College and Northwestern University School of Law and is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Illinois. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, and Massachusetts Black Women Attorneys Association. Active on various boards and commissions, including the Boston Human Rights Commission, Ms. Dashiell is currently Vice President of the Codman Square Health Center in Boston. In 1994, she was a recipient of the Boston YMCA Black Achievers Award. Ms. Dashiell and her husband reside in Boston and have two adult children.

Ms. Dashiell said, “Working with the Trial Court is a unique opportunity for me, and I look forward to joining Chief Justice Mulligan and his staff.”

Mediation may not be the most appropriate avenue for resolution in all cases.

For example, it may not be appropriate in cases where: A definitive or authoritative resolution of the matter is required; The matter involves or may bear upon significant questions of Government policy that require additional procedures before a final resolution may be made; Maintaining established policies that apply to many people is especially important; The matter significantly affects persons or groups who are not parties to the process; A full public record of the proceeding is important; or The agency must maintain continuing jurisdiction over the matter with authority to alter the disposition of the matter in light of changed circumstances.
